Gears of War: Reloaded is a remaster of the original 2006 third-person shooter, offering updated visuals and features for modern hardware and a new generation of players. It was released on August 26, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, marking the first time the original game is available on non-Xbox consoles. The game includes all the content from the 2015 Ultimate Edition remaster.
Gameplay and story
The core gameplay remains the classic third-person cover shooter that the Gears of War series is known for.
Plot: The story is set on the planet Sera, 14 years after "Emergence Day," when the subterranean Locust Horde emerged to attack humanity. You play as Marcus Fenix, a soldier rescued from prison by his friend Dom Santiago, and join Delta Squad to defeat the Locust threat. The squad must use a resonator to map the Locust's underground tunnels and destroy them with a lightmass bomb.
Mechanics: The game features the classic cover system and Active Reload mechanic, which rewards perfectly timed reloads with a damage boost.
Campaign: The campaign can be played solo or in two-player online co-op, with split-screen co-op also available on consoles.
