Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is a spy action thriller set in the early 1990s, a period marked by the end of the Cold War and the rise of the United States as a single superpower, with the Gulf War as a backdrop. Developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, it's the seventh main entry in the Black Ops sub-series.
Here's a breakdown of what to expect:
Campaign:
* Story: The narrative is "mind-bending" and follows rogue CIA operatives, including Black Ops veteran Frank Woods and new characters like Troy Marshall and William "Case" Calderon. Exiled from their agency and country, they find themselves hunted by the military machine that created them, forcing them to go rogue and partner with the criminal underworld. The main plot involves stopping a psychochemical weapon controlled by a paramilitary group called Pantheon, which has covert ties to the CIA.
* Setting: The story kicks off during Operation Desert Storm in 1991. Missions are selected from an evidence board at an abandoned mansion that serves as your base of operations. This hub world allows you to interact with your crew and even solve side puzzles.
* Gameplay: The campaign features dynamic moment-to-moment gameplay with blockbuster set pieces, action-packed moments, high-stakes heists, and cloak-and-dagger spy activity. Levels can be quite large, offering diverse play spaces, including stealth, hacking, and non-shooting sequences before intense gunfights.
Multiplayer:
* Maps: At launch, there are 16 new maps: 12 core 6v6 maps and 4 compact Strike maps that can be played 2v2 or 6v6.
* Modes: Expect classic 6v6 modes like Team Deathmatch, Free-for-All, Domination, Kill Confirmed, and Hardpoint. There's also a new core 6v6 mode called "Kill Order" where you eliminate an enemy High Value Target (HVT) while protecting your own. 2v2 Gunfight also makes a return.
* Arsenal: The game features a reworked Weapon Gunsmith system for more approachable customization. For the first time, there's a dedicated third slot for a melee weapon, ensuring you always have a close-quarters option.
Zombies:
* Return of Round-Based Zombies: The fan-favorite Round-Based Zombies mode makes an epic return.
* Maps: Two brand-new maps are available at launch: Terminus (a prison complex turned bio-research station) and Liberty Falls (a small West Virginian town).
* Gameplay: Expect hordes of the undead, Perk-a-Colas, Field Upgrades, Wonder Weapons, GobbleGums, and Ammo Mods. The introduction of "Augments" allows for further customization of Perks, Ammo Mods, and Field Upgrades.
New Gameplay Mechanics & Features Across All Modes:
* Omnimovement: This is a major innovation, allowing players to sprint, dive, and slide in any direction (forwards, backwards, and sideways) with 360 degrees of motion. This enables seamless chaining of combat maneuvers and allows players to shoot while in midair during a dive. This feature is optional and can be disabled.
* Intelligent Movement: This includes settings that can automate certain player actions like sprinting and mantling.
* Human Shields: Players can now take enemies hostage as human shields when sneaking up behind them, instead of just performing an execution.
* Sniper Changes: All shots from the torso and up are one-shot kills with sniper rifles, aiming to balance their power.
* Classic Prestige System: The traditional prestige system with permanent unlocks and reset levels is returning. Each prestige will be themed around an older Call of Duty title.
* Global Weapon Builds: Loadouts, including attachments and perks, can now be used across Multiplayer, Zombies, and Warzone, making customization more streamlined.
* Dedicated Melee Slot: A third weapon slot is dedicated to melee weapons.
* Dead Silence as a Perk: Dead Silence is back as a regular perk.
* Master Badges: Every Weapon, Equipment, Field Upgrade, and Scorestreak has a set of MP and Zombies Master Badges to progress through.
