Resident Evil 5 on PS4 is a remastered version of the 2009 action-oriented survival horror game. It features full 1080p HD graphics and an increased frame rate, targeting 60 FPS. The plot follows BSAA agents Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar as they investigate a bioterrorist threat in Kijuju, West Africa, where locals have been infected by the Las Plagas parasite.
A key feature of Resident Evil 5 is its emphasis on two-player cooperative gameplay, both local (split-screen) and online. Players must work together, sharing ammo and health items, to survive against hordes of intelligent and fast-moving enemies, including those wielding guns and grenades. The game offers a powerful arsenal of upgradeable weapons, and inventory management can be done in real-time.
This PS4 release includes all previously released downloadable content (DLC), such as the story expansions "Lost in Nightmares" and "Desperate Escape," the Versus mode, extra figures, and four costumes. It also features "No Mercy" mode, which throws even larger hordes of enemies at players, and "The Mercenaries United," a mode that combines all previous Mercenaries content, offering 8 playable characters with various costumes and loadouts. While it shifts from the traditional survival horror of earlier Resident Evil titles towards more action, it still incorporates elements of tension and boss battles, many of which involve quick-time events.
